Google has released Android 17 and Wear OS 7, emphasizing AI integration across its devices. Google has officially launched Android 17 and Wear OS 7, rolling them out initially to its Pixel devices. This release highlights Google's commitment to integrating advanced AI, with a particular focus on expanding Gemini's capabilities across various device functions. The update underscores a strategic move to showcase Google's latest AI technology through its Android and Pixel ecosystems.
The update introduces significant enhancements powered by AI, including Gemini Omni for video editing within conversations and Lyria 3 for music creation from text or image prompts. Pixel 10a devices will also benefit from improved speech-to-speech translation tools thanks to AudioLM. Furthermore, Android Quick Share is now compatible with Apple’s AirDrop on older Pixel models, facilitating easier file sharing.
Beyond AI, Android 17 offers new multitasking features like the "bubble bar" for organizing and accessing recent apps efficiently, speeding up multi-app workflows. Users can also record simultaneous selfie camera and screen footage for reaction videos. Parental controls and security have also been bolstered with features like "Mark as Lost" and Live Threat Detection.
Wear OS 7 also receives substantial upgrades, including better battery life and multistep automation. Future updates will bring more Gemini Intelligence features, such as personalized widget creation and "Personal Intelligence" by connecting Google apps and chat history. The Pixel Watch gains emergency detection features like car crash, fall, and lack of pulse detection, automatically contacting emergency services.
