Chamath Palihapitiya, known for Social Capital and the All-In podcast, announced that his AI coding startup, 8090 Labs, successfully raised $135 million in Series A funding. The round saw participation from prominent investors like Salesforce Ventures, WndrCo, Craft Ventures, and angel investors including Nikesh Arora and Adam D’Angelo.
Palihapitiya founded 8090 Labs in January 2024 to develop an AI coding agent for corporate programming teams. Their flagship product, Software Factory, is designed to assist corporate developers in building production-quality software with advanced enterprise controls, such as comprehensive audit trails.
In conjunction with the funding announcement, Palihapitiya revealed on X that he would be taking on the role of CEO for 8090 Labs. This move signifies his return to a full-time operational position, a decision he likened to the transformative early days of social media during his tenure at Facebook.
Palihapitiya expressed his conviction that the work at 8090 Labs is profoundly impactful, stating that he had been awaiting such a moment to re-engage in an operational capacity since his departure from Facebook. He believes the current AI surge presents an opportunity even more significant than the social media revolution.
