IrisGo, a startup backed by Andrew Ng, looks to become the AI desktop buddy you never knew you needed
IrisGo, an AI startup backed by Andrew Ng, has developed a desktop companion that automates repetitive tasks for knowledge workers. The application learns user workflows and offers a skill library for business-related functions, aiming to transition from manual AI assistance to a more autonomous workflow. It prioritizes privacy with on-device data processing for many tasks.
IrisGo, a startup supported by Andrew Ng, is developing an AI desktop companion designed to automate repetitive tasks for knowledge workers. This proactive system learns user workflows and can execute them with minimal human intervention. The company recently secured $2.8 million in seed funding led by Ng’s AI Fund.
Founded by former Apple engineer Jeffrey Lai, IrisGo’s core concept is to observe a task once and then autonomously replicate it. For instance, in a demonstration, Iris successfully learned and reordered coffee online. The system comes equipped with a "skills" library for common business functions like email drafting, invoice processing, and document summarization. It also features a coding assistant for developers.
Lai emphasizes that the goal is to shift from manual AI-assisted work to a fully autonomous workflow, allowing humans to focus on higher-level conceptual tasks. IrisGo prioritizes user privacy by processing much of its data on-device, though complex tasks may utilize a secure, encrypted cloud connection with user authorization.
IrisGo has recently launched beta versions for macOS and Windows, and is pursuing partnerships with laptop manufacturers for pre-installation, such as a recent deal with Acer. The company’s association with prominent figures like Andrew Ng, an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University and co-founder of Google Brain, has significantly bolstered its credibility and scaling strategy.
