Lumo, Proton’s privacy-focused AI chatbot, gets an upgrade
Proton has upgraded its privacy-focused AI chatbot, Lumo, to version 2.0, introducing advanced features like image recognition and generation, alongside significant speed improvements. This update enhances Lumo’s capabilities for project management and introduces persistent memory, all while maintaining Proton’s strong privacy commitments.
Proton, the company behind privacy-focused productivity apps, has rolled out a significant upgrade to its AI chatbot, Lumo. Version 2.0 introduces advanced functionalities, including image recognition and generation. Users can now upload images for analysis or editing and generate new imagery from text prompts, similar to other leading LLMs.
Lumo 2.0 also brings enhanced project management capabilities, allowing users to integrate the chatbot with other Proton products like email and cloud storage. A notable addition is user-controlled persistent memory, which enables Lumo to remember user preferences across different conversations, streamlining workflows.
The update dramatically improves Lumo's performance, with queries responding up to 76 percent faster than the previous version. For complex problems, a new "thinking mode" has been integrated to handle more intricate questions efficiently. According to Andy Yen, CEO of Proton, Lumo 2.0 demonstrates that users no longer need to compromise between powerful AI and strong privacy.
Proton differentiates Lumo through its robust privacy architecture. The chatbot utilizes zero-access encryption, ensuring all user data is encrypted both in transit and at rest, accessible only by the user. Proton also guarantees no server-side logging of sessions, preventing anyone at the company from viewing conversations, and pledges never to use customer data for AI training or share it with third parties.
