OpenAI launches ChatGPT for personal finance, will let you connect bank accounts
OpenAI has launched new personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers, allowing them to connect bank accounts via Plaid for spending analysis and financial planning. This new offering follows OpenAI's acquisition of the personal finance startup Hiro and aims to provide detailed financial insights and planning assistance.
OpenAI has introduced new personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the U.S., enabling them to connect bank accounts and utilize the AI for spending analysis and financial planning. The platform integrates with Plaid, a financial connection service, supporting over 12,000 financial institutions. This partnership allows users to view a comprehensive dashboard of their portfolio performance, spending habits, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.
This initiative follows OpenAI's acquisition of the personal finance startup Hiro's team in April, whose expertise was instrumental in developing these new features. OpenAI plans to expand its capabilities to include support for Intuit, offering advanced analysis such as the tax implications of stock sales and credit card approval odds.
With over 200 million users already posing financial questions to ChatGPT monthly, the new GPT-5.5 model, with its enhanced contextual reasoning, is expected to significantly improve the accuracy and relevance of financial advice. OpenAI collaborated with finance experts to establish benchmarks for the model's performance in personal finance.
The tools on offer can answer specific user queries, such as analyzing recent spending changes or assisting in building a five-year plan for purchasing a house. Users maintain control over their financial data, with options to disconnect accounts and delete synced data and financial memories from their ChatGPT profiles.
This move by OpenAI reflects a growing trend among AI companies to develop specialized products for sensitive areas like finance and health, moving beyond generalized chatbots to offer more secure and tailored services. The personal finance tools are currently available on ChatGPT for the web and iOS for Pro users, with plans to extend access to Plus users after gathering feedback.
