OpenAI says Codex is coming to your phone
OpenAI has integrated its Codex AI coding tool into the ChatGPT app, enabling users to monitor and manage development workflows remotely on iOS and Android. This update allows for comprehensive control, including reviewing outputs, approving commands, and starting new tasks from a mobile device.
OpenAI has announced the integration of its AI coding tool, Codex, into the ChatGPT app. This update allows users to monitor and manage their development workflows directly from their mobile devices on both iOS and Android platforms. The feature, currently in preview, is available to all plans.
This integration goes beyond simple remote control. Users can now work across all their threads, review outputs, approve commands, change models, or initiate new tasks from their phones. OpenAI emphasizes the comprehensive control this new mobile access provides.
Codex has also seen recent desktop enhancements. Last month, OpenAI enabled Codex to run autonomously in the background, handling various tasks. Earlier this month, a Chrome extension was introduced, allowing the agent to function within live browser sessions.
This move by OpenAI highlights the growing competition in the AI coding tool space. Anthropic, a competitor, recently released a similar feature called "Remote Control" for its Claude Code tool, allowing remote monitoring. Both Codex and Claude Code are widely used, and both companies are actively releasing new features to gain an edge in the market.
