Postman at APIdays Amsterdam: Building Better APIs for the AI Era

Postman showcased its latest innovations at APIdays Amsterdam, focusing on preparing APIs for the age of AI agents. Through workshops and demonstrations, Postman highlighted tools and practices for creating efficient and AI-ready API designs, emphasizing the impact of design quality on agent performance. The event underscored the growing importance of well-designed APIs for seamless integration with AI, promoting advanced developer workflows, and enhancing security in the evolving landscape of intelligent systems.
Postman actively participated as a Gold Sponsor at APIdays Amsterdam, an event dedicated to the future of APIs in the age of AI. The company's contributions included hands-on workshops, technical presentations, and live demonstrations, all aimed at equipping developers to build the next generation of AI-powered applications. The event served as a platform for Postman to engage with API practitioners and AI innovators.
Pooja Mistry, a Senior Developer Advocate at Postman, led a workshop that guided participants through building effective API workflows using the Artemis II API. Attendees gained practical experience with API collections, environments, and the Collection Runner, along with exposure to Git-native API workflows, AI-powered testing, and MCP agent integration. Mistry also showcased Agent Mode, which demonstrates how AI-powered workflows can accelerate development with APIs.
Another key highlight was a presentation by Gbadebo Bello, also a Senior Developer Advocate at Postman, on making APIs ready for AI agents. He emphasized that the quality of API design directly affects the performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency of AI agents. Bello demonstrated this by comparing two OpenAPI specifications, one poorly designed and one AI-ready, showing how the AI-ready API significantly outperformed the other in terms of agent task completion, token consumption, time, and cost.
The Postman booth was a central point for discussions and live demonstrations of their latest features, including Native Git capabilities, AI-powered workflows, Agent Mode, and MCP-related workflows. The interactive "silent-demo" setup, using noise-canceling headsets, provided an immersive learning experience for attendees. Additionally, the Astro AI team engaged participants with a Minecraft-based experience, allowing them to interact with AI agents and explore intelligent system behaviors.
