Clouted wants to take the guesswork out of making short videos go viral
Clouted, a startup that emerged from a16z’s Speedrun accelerator, has successfully closed a $7 million seed funding round. The company offers an AI-powered platform designed to optimize the creation and distribution of short video clips for viral marketing campaigns. Its technology analyzes performance data to refine content strategies, aiming to reduce the uncertainty in achieving viral success.
Short video clips are now ubiquitous on social media, serving as a highly cost-effective marketing tool for brands. However, managing the creation and distribution of these clips presents significant operational challenges. Brands often outsource "clipping"—identifying compelling 30 to 90-second video segments—to a growing network of gig creators.
Clouted, a startup from a16z’s Speedrun accelerator, is building the infrastructure to address these challenges. Its platform automates both distribution strategy and the logistics of the clipping process. It leverages a network of over 100,000 gig creators for editing and employs AI to determine optimal social media platforms and target audiences for promotion.
The co-founder and CEO, Justin Banusing, initially applied Clouted's technology to promote his electronic music and festival production ventures, successfully growing a festival to over 20,000 attendees. This practical application demonstrates the effectiveness of Clouted's approach in real-world scenarios.
Clouted stands out by not merely pursuing high clip counts. Instead, its AI utilizes a continuous testing loop, experimenting with various formats and channel strategies to identify what performs best. Each campaign refines the next, accumulating data to make subsequent efforts more targeted and efficient. This adaptive learning process is key to its success.
The startup recently secured $7 million in seed funding, led by Slow Ventures, with participation from Gold House Ventures, Weekend Fund, and Peak XV’s Surge. This investment underscores investor confidence in Clouted's innovative approach to viral marketing.
Clouted aims to tackle the larger enterprise marketing infrastructure market, competing with established players like CreatorIQ and Hightouch. The company's strategy involves a sophisticated, data-driven approach to content virality, moving beyond simple volume metrics to achieve genuine impact.
