OpenAI has partnered with Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) to launch "OpenAI for Singapore," an initiative supporting the nation's comprehensive National AI Strategy. This collaboration underscores Singapore's pioneering efforts in AI, recognizing its role as a pivotal infrastructure for economic growth, public services, and societal advancement. The program aims to solidify Singapore's position as a leading AI-powered economy.

Central to the partnership is the establishment of OpenAI's Applied AI Lab in Singapore, marking the company's first such venture outside the United States. This lab will create over 200 Singapore-based technical positions, including "Forward-Deployed Engineers" who bridge frontier research with practical applications, working directly with companies to solve complex problems and unlock new value streams.

With a commitment exceeding S$300 million, OpenAI for Singapore will prioritize key areas aligned with Singapore's AI Mission, including public service, finance, healthcare, and digital infrastructure. As the local team grows, OpenAI anticipates expanding its physical presence in the country.

The initiative also focuses on skill development for the AI-driven future. It will foster AI adoption across all economic sectors, not just large enterprises, by exploring accelerator programs for AI-native startups and conducting workshops for micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses, emphasizing practical application and operational improvement.
