OpenAI, Grupo Folha and Grupo UOL announce strategic content partnership
OpenAI has partnered with major Brazilian media groups Folha de S.Paulo and UOL to integrate their journalism into ChatGPT. This collaboration aims to provide ChatGPT users with high-quality, attributed, and timely news content while supporting the broader news ecosystem.
OpenAI has announced its first media partnership in Brazil, collaborating with leading media groups Folha de S.Paulo and UOL. This strategic alliance aims to integrate the journalism of these prominent Brazilian outlets into ChatGPT, making their high-quality reporting accessible to over 900 million weekly active ChatGPT users globally. This initiative is part of OpenAI's broader effort to work collaboratively with news organizations worldwide, ensuring attribution, transparency, and links back to original sources.
This partnership underscores the increasing importance of professional journalism in the age of artificial intelligence. According to Sérgio Dávila, Editor-in-Chief of Folha de S.Paulo, the interest of an AI giant like OpenAI in displaying content from Folha and UOL reinforces the value of trusted reporting. OpenAI's VP of Media Partnerships, Varun Shetty, added that by making their journalism accessible, the goal is to provide more useful, timely, and locally relevant answers to ChatGPT users while supporting the news ecosystem.
The collaboration presents significant opportunities for both OpenAI and its Brazilian partners. Folha de S.Paulo and UOL will be able to reach new global audiences and expand the reach and impact of their journalism. Conversely, ChatGPT users will benefit from discovering credible and reliable information directly within the platform. Carlos Ponce de Leon, Folha de S.Paulo's Co-CEO, emphasizes that this partnership positions Folha at the forefront of the news industry's transformation by AI.
Brazil represents a significant market for ChatGPT, boasting over 50 million monthly active users and facilitating approximately 140 million message exchanges daily. This makes the integration of local and relevant news content particularly impactful.
Furthermore, as part of the agreement, Grupo Folha and Grupo UOL will gain access to OpenAI's advanced tools, including Codex, ChatGPT Enterprise, and the API. This will enable them to explore innovative ways to leverage AI to enhance their journalistic endeavors, develop new products and features for their readership, and optimize internal workflows and business operations.
