OpenAI launches DeployCo to help businesses build around intelligence
OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Deployment Company (DeployCo) as a new venture to help organizations effectively implement and scale AI solutions. DeployCo will integrate specialized Forward Deployed Engineers directly into client teams and has acquired Tomoro to bolster its immediate capabilities.
OpenAI has officially launched the OpenAI Deployment Company, also known as DeployCo, to assist organizations in building and deploying reliable AI systems for critical operations. This initiative aims to extend OpenAI's reach by embedding specialized "Forward Deployed Engineers" (FDEs) directly into client environments. FDEs will collaborate with business leaders and operational teams to identify high-impact AI applications, redesign workflows, and ensure the successful integration of AI.
In conjunction with the launch, DeployCo has acquired Tomoro, an applied AI consulting and engineering firm. This acquisition brings approximately 150 experienced FDEs and Deployment Specialists to DeployCo, significantly enhancing its immediate operational capacity and expertise in real-time AI systems within complex enterprise settings.
DeployCo is a strategic partnership between OpenAI and 19 leading global investment firms, consultancies, and system integrators, spearheaded by TPG with Advent, Bain Capital, and Brookfield as co-lead founding partners. OpenAI retains majority ownership and control, ensuring a unified experience for customers engaging with either OpenAI or DeployCo. The venture starts with over $4 billion in initial investment to scale operations and facilitate further acquisitions.
OpenAI's founding vision always emphasized that developing powerful AI models is only part of the journey; true impact comes from helping organizations utilize these systems safely and effectively at scale. DeployCo aims to address the growing need for businesses to integrate advanced AI into their operational core, redefining critical workflows with intelligent systems that deliver measurable results.
By operating as a standalone business unit, DeployCo can develop its unique operating model while remaining closely connected to OpenAI's research, product, and in-house deployment teams. This connection allows DeployCo FDEs to anticipate future frontier AI capabilities, providing customers with systems designed to evolve and improve with new models, tools, and deployment patterns, thereby enabling faster deployment and sustained competitive advantage.
FDE engagements typically begin with a diagnostic phase to pinpoint high-value AI opportunities, followed by the selection of priority workflows. FDEs then work within the client organization to design, build, test, and deploy production systems, integrating OpenAI models with the customer’s data, tools, and business processes for reliable day-to-day use.
