Salesforce has announced its intention to acquire Fin, an AI customer service platform, for $3.6 billion. This strategic acquisition is aimed at bolstering Salesforce's existing enterprise platform, Agentforce, which enables businesses to develop custom AI agents for task automation. Fin, formerly known as Intercom, provides an AI agent capable of resolving customer queries across various communication channels, including live chat, WhatsApp, SMS, phone calls, and Slack.
According to Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, Fin brings proven agent technology, a strong commitment to customer success, and a skilled AI team. These assets are expected to significantly enhance Agentforce's service agent capabilities, helping companies of all sizes accelerate their time to value with trusted, measurable automation.
Fin co-founder and CEO Eoghan McCabe affirmed that little will change internally, with both he and Des continuing in their leadership roles. He expressed confidence that Salesforce's resources will only accelerate their progress in the customer service AI sector. The transaction is projected to be finalized in the first few months of 2027, aligning with Salesforce's fiscal year reporting.
